PostPro Chemical Vapor Smoothing

Fully automated surface finishing technology that smooths and seals the surface of 3D printed polymer parts. Achieving a surface finish with an injection molded look and feel. The process is non-line-of-sight and therefore can smooth complex geometries and internal cavities of thermoplastic parts without degrading the mechanical properties. Combined with UL & CE certification, the patented PostPro vapor smoothing technology is recommended by the world leading additive manufacturing players.

What is Vapor Smoothing?

3D printed parts are not end-use ready when they come off the printer. The rough and porous surface of as-printed parts limits their use cases and functionality. Vapor smoothing is a vital step in 3D printing post-processing in that it turns parts into smoother, more functional, and aesthetically appealing finished products.

Available Vapor Smoothing Systems

POSTPRO SFX

The PostPro SFX is the world’s first desktop vapor smoothing system for engineering plastics.

The desktop sized system does not only offer unparalleled post-processing performance – it has the smallest footprint, enabling smoothed, sealed and stronger parts in any environment. The PostPro SFX utilizes a green consumable, PostPro Pure.

Results you can expect

HP MJF PA11

Vapor smoothing was used to enhance mechanical performance, establish a soft and biocompatible surface for interaction with children, and guarantee ease of cleaning through a sealed surface.

HP MJF BASF Ultrasint® TPU01

The utilisation of this technology stemmed from the need for heightened durability, enabling its use across various conditions, as well as the desire for a biocompatible surface and impeccable finish, expected for a premium product.

Performance Enhancements

mech-prop

Increased Mechanical Properties

Due to the removal of surface porosity and crack initiation sites, extensive testing demonstrates that vapor smoothed parts result in an increase of Elongation at Break (EAB) with no loss in ultimate tensile strength.

Enhances Color Vibrancy

An added value is that colored parts do not bleed in the vapor smoothing process. Instead, color consistency and hue are enhanced, making them more vibrant.

inj-quality

Injection Molded Surface Quality

Using a series of predefined parameters, our chemical vapor smoothing achieves for the first time a surface finish that matches injection molding techniques with an RA of less than 1 micron.

System Compatibility

AMT's technologies have been developed to process thermoplastic polymer materials. Currently the technology can process Polyamide (Nylon) (6,11,12), Flame retardant Nylons, Carbon/Glass filled derivatives of Nylons, ULTEM, PMMA, Thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU), and Thermoplastic Elastomers (TPE).
